Celebrating a Successful Re-Launch

The recent relaunch of the Rotherham United Powerchair Football program was a resounding success, with over 65 attendees coming together to celebrate the growth and achievements of the club. The event was an opportunity to introduce new players, acknowledge the progress of existing participants, and highlight the invaluable partnerships that make this initiative possible. Our collaboration with Places Leisure, which is providing free venue hire until March 2026, further reinforces the sustainability and accessibility of the club.

Making a Difference: Riley’s Story

One of the most inspiring stories to come from the project is that of Riley, a passionate young person facing the challenges of a progressive illness. While he does not yet require a wheelchair full-time, his parents sought a way for him to stay involved in sport as his mobility changes. They discovered powerchair football through the Rotherham United Powerchair Football project, providing Riley with an opportunity to continue his love for sport in a way that adapts to his needs.

Initially, Riley was uncertain about the transition. However, through regular training, he has gained confidence, developed new skills, and built strong friendships with teammates who share his journey. Powerchair football has not only helped him maintain physical activity but has also provided him with a vital sense of community and resilience as he looks to the future.
