Wellness Through Sport and Activity Commitment

Wellness Through Sport and Activity Commitment

The West Hampshire, Southampton and Isle of Wight Wheelchair and Repair Service is committed to supporting the health, wellbeing, and social inclusion of wheelchair users across our communities.

We recognise the importance of physical activity, sport, and community participation in maintaining independence, confidence, and overall wellbeing. As part of our holistic approach to care, we will:

  • Provide information and guidance about local activities, sports and community opportunities that are accessible to wheelchair users.
  • Signpost to organisations, clubs and initiatives that are fully inclusive of wheelchair users.
  • Promote opportunities that support participation at all levels — from recreational activity to competitive sport.
  • Work collaboratively with local partners to improve awareness of inclusive provision across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
  • Supporting pathways to employment.

We are committed to ensuring that wheelchair users have access to clear, up-to-date information that empowers them to participate fully in community life.

Celebrating International Wheelchair Day on 1 March

International Wheelchair Day 1st March 2026

International Wheelchair Day aims to:

Enable wheelchair users to celebrate the positive impact a wheelchair has in their lives.

Celebrate the great work of the many millions of people who provide wheelchairs, who provide support and care for wheelchair users and who make the World a better and more accessible place for people with mobility issues.

Acknowledge and react constructively to the fact there are many tens of millions of people in the World who need a wheelchair, but are unable to acquire one.
