Wheelchair Motocross (WCMX) with Archie Beaumont

My name is Archie and  I have been a wheelchair user for almost 3 years. Sport has always been a big part of my life so when I started using a wheelchair it was important for me to find ways to still be part of the sports I loved and to find sports where I'd be supported and understood when my health changed. Before I used a wheelchair I spent a lot of time skateboarding. Skateparks are a place I've always been included despite having to change how I Skate from just skateboards to with crutches and eventually WCMX (wheelchair motocross) wheelchairs.

WCMX has helped me keep active in Skating while also given me a space to learn and practice skills that help me navigate day to day obstacles like curbs, cobbles and steps independently. Along with WCMX I also do wheelchair rugby which is a full contact wheelchair sport. Wheelchair rugby is a fast paced sport where working well as a team is essential. Being part of a team has helped me a lot with gaining confidence since my health changed. The wheelchair rugby community as a whole has been amazing in helping me both on and off court. Going to friendly tournaments has been a great way to progress my skills in rugby and to meet new people.

Off court other players and coaches have helped me with all sorts of things like access services I didn't know about before, joining in with other clubs and activities as well as helping with much needed equipment.
